WFTD is a program funded by the Commonwealth Government which gives eligible job seekers work experience opportunities and activities within their community. The program allows participants to give back to the community that supports them while they are unemployed. The program is based on the principle of mutual obligation.
Placements are generally for a six-month period.
As a community work co-ordinator, BRACE arranges opportunities for WFTD participants in not-for-profit organisations and government organisations such as schools, charities and local community associations with the Grampians region. In the past WFTD programs have included landscaping, web design, building restoration, Landcare projects, disability support, office administration and retail sales, to name but a few.
It can. If you do volunteer work with an approved volunteer organisation, you may be able to make this part of your approved mutual obligation activity. You can find your own organisation to volunteer for, or BRACE can help you find one.
WFTD participants continue to receive their Centrelink allowances while with the program. In addition, they receive Training Credits of up to $800 for an approved course. These training credits can fund courses with any registered training organisation (such as BRACE) and can include the cost of tuition, books and equipment.
If you are unemployed, you are eligible to join a Work for the Dole program. If you have been unemployed for seven months or more, you have an obligation to join the program under the Commonwealth's mutual obligation policy.
